Nº 02 · What it does

Four things it sets right.

You bring the shelf. We bring eighteen years of dispensing and a slow half-hour to work through it. What we’re listening for, in plain terms:

01Interactions, surfaced
Potential clashes between prescription, over-the-counter, and complementary medicines — caught before they cause harm.
02A simpler routine
Dose timings, food interactions, and stacking advice, written down so the fridge door becomes your reference.
03Side-effects named
Know which symptoms are medication-related and which belong to the condition underneath.
04Adherence, gently
An honest conversation about what you actually take versus what’s on the script. No judgement, just next steps.

Nº 03 · Two kinds

Pick the one that fits.

I · MedsCheck

Standard review.

Best when you’re on five or more regular medicines. A comprehensive look at everything on the shelf — prescription, OTC, and supplements — and how they work together.

  • Five or more regular medicines
  • All conditions welcome
  • Covers interactions, timing, adherence

II · Diabetes MedsCheck

Focused on diabetes.

Tailored to Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes management. We look at how your meds are working alongside blood glucose, diet, and lifestyle, and how to get the best from them.

  • Diabetes diagnosis
  • Multiple medicines, often stacked
  • Targets HbA1c, hypo risk, daily control

Nº 04 · Eligibility

Who it’s open to.

Four criteria, all of which need to be true. If they’re not, we’ll still take ten minutes over the counter — the free version just isn’t available.

  1. 01

    Australian resident

An Australian citizen or permanent resident. Medicare card verifies eligibility on the day.

  2. 02

    On multiple regular medicines

Five or more ongoing medicines — or a qualifying diagnosis for the Diabetes MedsCheck variant.

  3. 03

Not had one in 12 months

The service is government-funded annually. If you’ve had a MedsCheck in the past year, we’ll let you know when you’re next due.

  4. 04

    Self-referred or GP-referred

You don’t need a referral to book, but we’ll loop your GP in afterwards if anything needs their attention.

Nº 05 · On the day

What to bring.

01

Every medicine you take

Prescription bottles, pharmacy boxes, over-the-counter anti-inflammatories, vitamins, herbal supplements — bring the lot. If it goes in your body regularly, it belongs on the table.

02

Your Medicare card

Needed to confirm your eligibility for the free, government-funded service.

03

The questions you’ve been saving

Whether it’s “does this really do anything?” or “can I stop one of these?” — write them down on the way in. This time is yours.

04

Recent numbers, if you have them

Blood pressure, blood glucose, INR, kidney-function bloods, or any recent pathology. Optional, but it sharpens the review.

Nº 06 · Common questions

Asked, answered.

  • Yes. The MedsCheck and Diabetes MedsCheck programs are funded by the Australian Government through the Community Pharmacy Agreement. Eligible patients pay nothing on the day. We confirm your eligibility before we book the review so there are no surprises.
  • A standard MedsCheck is for patients living at home (not in residential aged care) who are taking five or more regular prescription medicines, or who have had a recent significant change to their medication regimen. A Diabetes MedsCheck is for patients with type 2 diabetes who are not optimally controlled or have had a recent diagnosis. You can have one of each per twelve-month period.
  • A standard MedsCheck reviews all of your medicines for interactions, adherence, and understanding. A Diabetes MedsCheck focuses on blood glucose control, devices, lifestyle, and the medicines used to manage type 2 diabetes — and includes follow-up. They are separately funded, and you can be eligible for both.
  • Plan on 20 to 30 minutes in our private consult room. Diabetes MedsChecks usually run a little longer because they cover devices and lifestyle as well as medicines. You leave with a written action plan you can take home or share with your GP.
  • Bring everything you take regularly — prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins, herbal remedies, and inhalers or injectables. If you have a current medication list from your GP, bring that too. If you would rather not transport bottles, a clear photo of each label is fine.
  • With your permission, yes. We send a concise summary to your GP so the medication record stays aligned. Nothing is shared without your explicit consent.
  • Yes — a MedsCheck is a structured one-on-one review, so we set the time aside in advance. Most weeks we have availability inside 48 hours. Call (02) 6023 3666 or send a message and we will book a time that suits.
